Sample History:

Charlie E. and Chris Fagan Holt

Charles Edward “Chuck” and Freda Christine “Chris” Fagan Holt are enjoying retirement at their river front home on Current River about five miles south of Doniphan, Missouri.
Chris is a native of Oregon County, Missouri, born May 30, 1922, at Calm, daughter of William Clarence and Nova L. Fagan. Chris has happy memories of her grade school days at the Baker and Liberty Schools and is a graduate of Couch High School. She received her BS degree from ASU in Jonesboro, Arkansas, but began her teaching career soon after graduating from high school. She taught for 13 years in the rural schools, nine years out
of state in Phoenix, Arizona, and her last 22 years in the Doniphan School System. She taught 11 years in kindergarten and 11 years in first grade, retiring in 1988. Quoting from a remark that Chris made after her retirement, “Teaching was not only a profession, but also a life that I loved. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would teach.”

Chuck retired from the U.S. Army, having served much of his time on the islands of the South Pacific. They have plans to travel and perhaps revisit some of the places where Chuck was stationed while in service. The third member of this family is King Kong, a sassy little chihuahua!

Up until retirement Chris and Chuck had enjoyed racing quarter horses. They had two racers themselves and were engaged in breeding registered quarter horses on their farm in the Oxly, Missouri, area but are enjoying a quieter life on the river with hobbies of traveling, boating, gardening and growing many beautiful flowers.

    • The current book is the 1990’s version republished. The new book or Book 2 is for info that didn’t get in the original books, families that got left out, stories and for what has happened since 1990. Definitely you can send in new info.

  1. I enjoyed very much reading Oregon county History Book 1 The book refreshed fond memories of my growing up years in Oregon County, It also, made me recall many old friends and neighbors that I have not seen in years and many good adventures there.

I still visit Oregon County yearly and drive around Thayer to see where my years from 1939 to 1957 were enjoyed.

    Thanks for publishing the book
    Claude Biffle.
